Who takes a sibling class?  When should we sign up?

Sibling classes are to prepare siblings who are expecting a new baby in their family soon.  Our classes are special because they are specifically geared toward siblings who will be or may be attending the birth itself.  Desert Rose Sibling Classes are for expectant siblings aged 2 to 8.

Kids tend to remember more of what they've learned if it hasn't been too long.  Usually this means taking the class during the last trimester of the pregnancy.  The table of scheduled classes below should help you plan.  Please call me at or e-mail me if you have questions (Sarah).

How much do classes cost?

The charge for one sibling (along with one or both parents and a "buddy") is $15. For families with more than one sibling, the class is $5 more for each additional sibling (1 child=$15, 2=$20, 3=$25).  You can pay by check or cash.

What can I expect at a Desert Rose sibling class?

Lots of questions answered and lots of fun!  In sibling classes, the emphasis is on learning through experience, as well as discussion.  We read stories, watch videos, do birth art, and talk about birth and new babies!

Note to parents: many of the materials used in sibling classes show mommies giving birth naked.  If this is a problem, please talk to the teacher before signing up.

Where are classes held?

Regular classes are held at locations in Salt Lake Valley and Utah County, including Birth and Family Place birth center (2180 E 4500 S, Suite 150), and offices in Utah County.  Maps to these locations are provided below:

Should my older children attend the birth?

Well, that's a good question.  Some questions to consider:  Are you comfortable with your child being present at the birth?  Does the child want to attend?  And is your situation conducive?

If the answers to these questions are yes, attending the birth will most likely be a wonderful experience for your older children.  A sibling class can help prepare your big brother or sister for the sights, sounds and emotions of labor and birth, preparing them for a special moment they can remember for a lifetime.  These classes also help parents and "birth buddies" prepare to help their children have the best experience possible.
